You need to be master farmers and have LVL three farming tech. Go fishing in the lagoon and catch TEN magic fishies. They’ll get dropped in the ocean. When you have all 10 fish, you’ll have solved a puzzle and have unlimited fishing priviledges in the ocean.
If you’re just starting out, it’s more feasible to build a dam (With LVL 2 construcion tech) and start farming. But you’ll want to build a scarecrow for the farm, or those cute red parrots will starve out your village.

I did it! I’ve got nearly all the research done so I don’t know how much you need. Take all your master scientists to the pool and one ofthem will hunt for an algae-eating fish which he will then take to the sea, you need to do it about 5 times and the algae will disappear. I think you might need a fully trained scientist but I’m not sure!
I can’t get my adults to breed I have tried over and over and over again they go into the hut but no baby ever comes out
put the adults together when it says going indoors seperate them then put them together again just keep doin that untill your population increases they dont need to go in the hut

build a scarecrow! Go up near the rocks to the right of the cave and there are some smaller looking branch things – pick them up and build your scarecrow – got to have the 2nd level of farming tech to do it though
to e t rid of birds u need an adept scientist or better then twist up leaves and sticks i believe then u do this about 5 times then u will make a scarecrow good luck
First you pick up the firewood that is by the shore, going south-west. Then, your villager should take it to the fire spot. To kindle a fire, go north and search for the patch of dry grass. It’s near the shore, too. Drag your villager to it and it will take the grass to the spot. Once you have firewood and dry grass together, drag your villager to such a spot and the little thing will start the long-awaited fire.

To get rid of the algae you have to have farming stage 3, it takes FOREVER, but then drag a Master farmer to the pond, it takes a few tries to get the master farmer to catch the yellow (algae eating) fish, they will take it to the ocean and it clears up the ocean, hope this helps!

to get rid of the birds take any farmer up to the roots at the northern part, next to the thorns and they will use those vines to make a scarecrow, they have to do it twice.
also drag one of the villagers all around to different plants (5 total) and then you will have mastered herbs which i believe are used later in stuff like stews
There are 6 plants..3 up top, 1 just above the rocks on the right(by the grave yard), one to the far South(east) and one at very bottom….you have to have all these before you can make the right “stew” so the villagers can swim underwater to get the algae eating fish…Did any of that make sense?…lol
Take a master scientist to the shiny black rocks by the blue rose herb and then to the vines nearby to build a tool, then take a villager to the briars and they will grab a tool and go to work. You might need a master builder to get them started clearing the briars.
oh my word!!!!! it costs 5000 tech points to change 1 villagers clothes
So, to get rid of the algae, is it a master farmer or a master scientist that is needed? Two different comments mention both. Also, the stew…my scientist made it, but he stopped at 3 herbs and said it was complete. It gives them energy. How do I get rid of this stew to try making another? Do you have to get all six herbs in the stew for them to catch the algae fish?

ok, to get rid of the algae you have to have a master farmer….but first you have to make the right stew for them to eat so they can breath underwater, the combination is herb 4(the long row of purple flowers by the waterfall), then number 6 2 times(its the one at the bottom. All combinations only need 3 to make a stew. You just have to wait and the stew will disappear if you make the wrong one. All of the above you have to also have level 2 farming…hope this helped

How do you get the coconuts
any farmer will climb up and get the coconuts, if they are not experienced, they will keep shaking their head “no” as with anything. I took an adept farmer and they got the coconuts easily, just place them at the bottom of any of the coconut trees. Good luck
Has anyone been able to find the last piece of the gong? I have solved 15 out of 16 puzzles, with the gong being the final one, and I cant find it anywhere. I have fully researched all catagories(level 3 on all) and nothing more is happening. Does it have something to do with the collections the kids find? Thats all I can think of b/c it’s the only thing that is not 100% completed.
Melsay please refer also to Lori (3 down from here). One of the stew combinations allows the eater to not have to breathe – if you place that villager into the pool after eating, s/he can dive down and pick up the gong piece. Note of interest: the wrong gong piece is shown in the pool but it will be right when the villager retrieves it and places it on the gong.
How do you create master fishers? There is no category and they can’t fish with all that algea. Or do you need to have level 3 farming?
You need to repair the broke hut down by the wood pile. That is where they go to do the deed!
I made the stew that gives my villagers the ablity to not have to breath and still can’t get my lazy Master Farmer to go fishing for the algea eating fish. Am I missing something? His people are starving and he just doesn’t care!!!
Lori please refer also to Melsay (3 up from here). The stew you are mentioning is for a different purpose. You should place your Master Farmer into the pool in order for him/her (and the tribe) to realize there are algea-eating fish there – s/he should fish for it automatically and then take it over to the ocean. After that, other villagers will do the same (you may have to get them started by tossing them into the pool). They should continue until the algea are cleared up.
I find if I just insist in them getting together they will have babys. I don’t even give them time to get to the shed to do the deed. Once they agree to go inside I grab them and put them together again. I do this until I see the little bundle of joy arrive. It’s much quicker and I’m impatient.
I followed the instruction here and it did not work for the algae fish. It did get me the food for being able to breathe under water though.
What is the trick for the algae fish?
How long does it take for them to get to “master” level? Any way of helping them along?

I’m having great fun with this game. Have just mad a ‘Resoring Stew’ (two blue herb in the graveyard and one orange/red at the bottom of the screen & completely restored all my weakened villagers. Have now got 3 bits of gong and only one death!
Make stew,one purple herb (the long one in the graveyard) and two red/orange (the one at the bottom of the screen). To make stew find the caldron in the woodpile, then drop villager on the fire to prepare stew. Drop villagers on the herbs to add them, then drop villagers ont the fire two more times, once to add water and when this is done to add food. You can then get a villager to eat the stew. Once they have eaten it and no longer feel the need to breath drop them in the pond.
having fun with the game to ,,having fun making differants stews to see what they do ,,one i am intersted in is the stew that makes them jumpy lol does this have a purpose like the holding breath one ?
How does the farmer become a master? when the sea is full of algea and their is’nt any coconuts left,is there a stew that can make them masters plz help.
No stew for that one! Have you made a dam in the bottom right hand corner? When you do you will be able to farm food, you won’t be able to deal with the algea until you have farming level three.
I’ve made 4 stews and didn’t write the combinations down (duh!). Now my villagers all have allergies and I don’t remember which herbs I used to make the spicy stew. Anyone remember the combo?

I’ve got level 2 farming & 3 master farmers eating the breathing stew. I drop them in the pond and all they do is “enjoy the pond”. Why won’t they fish?
you need level 3 of farming before they fish for the algea fish
They won’t fish for anything except the gong until you have farming level three
I bought vv 2 from big fish and after 10 times trying to activate it and conntacting the support crew I still haven’t been able to activate it!!!!!
i`m not totally sure but every time i hear the dinging sound, there is something for the kids to collect that come out at the same time.
To get rid of the algae you have to purchace level 3 of farming and take a master farmer or master scientist to the pond, where they will collect algae-eating fish that they can use to repopulate the ocean. If you go to last day worked web site, they will give you details on how to solve the puzzles. Got the game off of Bigfish and had no problems. Have bought lots of games from them with no issues.

Help… I picked up the caldron bu now it isn’t on the fire. Is it coming back or do I have to start all over? Because without the caldron I can’t make the stews to dive…
I opened the crate with 3 master builders but for some reason I can not pick up the gong peice. It is the last peice left and I have a feeling I will never be able to get it. Anyone have any advise for me?
You need a totem, you get this when you have a villager who is master in three skills. When the mosaic area in the bottom right is uncovered DROP the totem into the middle and the last piece will appear
This is driving me nuts! I am almost done with the game. All I have left is the last 3 beetles and the last peice of the gong. I have the one from the mosaic already. All I need to do is figure out how to get the one in the crate by the beach. I opened the crate already and I tried to pick up the gong peice but all that happened was it disappeared. Like when you try to pick up a mushroom that goes away before you can get it. When I drag a villager over to it they will lean over to grab the peice and I can even see it for a split second but then it is gone again. I am wondering if this is a game glitch. Someone please HELP ME!

I don’t know if anyone else has had this occure to them and I hope it’s not going to be a problem later on. At the first of the game I was going along just fine. Racking up points, gathering fish, etc. When my first child turned 14 and was old enough to work, all of the sudden there was two of him. Yes he turned into twins! There were two teenagers with the same clothes and the same name. Mobo I named the other one Mobotoo so I could watch them and distinguish between them. I am of course thrilled I got this bonus. Now I can have double the person getting more tech points for me early on.
BTW I like this one way better then the first and can’t wait to see what they come up with for the third.

For the dam you need level 2 in engineering not in farming. Hope this will help.
first you put the cauldron on the fire, then go to the herbs and your villager will put an herb in the stew. Then drop a villager on the cauldron again and they will put water in it. Once again drop the villager on the cauldron and they will put food in it. then the stew will be done.
Are the beetles, shells, pebbles and butterflies random? I have all of them except the last beetle and the last pebble. I have 11 totems so I am looking forward to getting those last two items. Thanks

ok…(spoiler warning)
start your tribe tech wise like this… Farming, eng, farming. dont mate your people over 11.
take your time and store food. the fish will run out, the coconuts will run out.
ok…after u get the algae, you *should have bout 2000 food stored up.
try to only make men builders and farmers as they can train to master level in both before they die then pass that on to their kids before they die.
to get rid of the algae, see above postes… or just get 90k tech and get L3 farming and get either your Master scientist or farmers to put yellow algae eating fish into the sea for unlimited fishing.
to cut the vines near the mouth at the top of the screen.. , get L2 exploration and put your M-scientist on the rocks and flexible wood in the top right corner.
To get water onto the patch of dirt.. L2Engineering, Make sure you get your master or adept farmer to make a scarecrow as soon as you complete your dam. to make a dam, you place them over the flexible wood in the Top right corner.
GONG PIECES
1.the pond- get L2 explorationm, the colderon in the wood pile, then make the following stew.bottem big red flower +2 waterfall plant(looks like a string of berries)
2.need 3 master builders to break the create. then drop them onto the gong pieces.
3.cut away the weeds at the top of the screen.
4.need L3 Culture and Engineering for the ancient covered floor. place a elder totom in the center. BAmn!

There are 56 unique recipes – I did them in a spreadsheet and it would be difficult to write them up in a posting. 29 have positive health effects on the villagers plus 1 which has no health effect but is necessary for solving a puzzle. 1 is completely neutral as far as I could tell. 8 make them feel jumpy or thirsty, just poorly while 12 others make them feel really bad or they reject them – none of these 20 actually affect their health status. The final 5 will actually make them have sick health status and a healer will be needed.
I was going to try to give some recipes but I see that the next post by Meryl mentions that recipes are posted elsewhere.

Hi, I have all the collections complete. I am not sure about this. But when I just needed the last beetle, I took a master scientist to the gong and instead of admiring the gong, he started ringing the gong. Shortly after that I found the last beetle. It could be a coincidence.

I found the pot, added 3 herbs (0 herbs needed) but the stew tastes bad, no-one wants it. Not the main point though, I want to know where the fire countdown time has gone to? All I get now when i click anywhere near the fire is “the Stew is ready” message.
Just wanted to know if anyone can tell me where the fire countdown time disappears once the stew pot is placed at the fire?
How can we know how long before adding more dry grass?
I tried clicking all overound the fire, but all I get is a message aboutt eh stew, either that it is ready or that it needs herbs.

Just go back to the menu screen and then start playing again. The cauldron will be back on the side of the fire so you can click on the fire and see how many hours are left. Once you start making a stew – it seems it only gives you info abut the stew when you click on the fire.

It is possible that your firewall is not set right, or like my modem, it has to be registered in my firewall prog to ensure that the game can get thru.
Does anyone know what the max age is that a woman in the game can have kids?
It seems that I cannot mate an “elder” or “elderly” woman with an “Elder” male. Putting together the above mix no matter how many times I try I cannot get them to mate.
I have all 3 levels in all skills, Culture etc.
Not one of the offspring have been Apprentices, how sad:(
I was hoping that by mating two very experienced ppl that I would get an “Apprentice” child from the mix, (as was the case in V1.)

I think around 50, the status will change to Elderly, and they won’t be able to have children.

you have to make a magic stew using 3 herbs only use one character to make the stew then drop that person in the water and wait they should then dive in and get it!
You don’t have to be in front of your pc the whole time. If you’re planning to leave your computer, even for a day, just make sure one, or better yet, two farmers are doing the food gathering, one doctor is available, one scientist is doing the research, and the rest building the hut or taking care of a baby and the rest is up to your villagers. You’ll be surprised what they can accomplish without you for a while.

Can anyone tell me where I can go to get several of these games at one place??? I’ve talked, been to, and emailed several places and they only have one or two of the games. I don’t want to download a purchase cause I’m on dial-up and most places don’t take money orders. I’m having a really having a hard time because when I do go I can only go to one place a month and I’d like to buy 3-6 games a month. Any suggestions on where I can buy several disks at one place. Some of these games got me so crazy but I want the full versions and can’t find them. Help!!!!!

I’m also on dialup and I looked all over. I could find one here and one there that way. Best place was eBay, but some of what was being sold looked a little iffy to me – like bootleg versions.
Can you go to a WiFi hot spot which will give you a faster connection? If so, do so, download all 3 games from http://www.virtualvillagers.com (Last Day of Work – the makers) while you’re there. When you go to purchase the 1st one (which will be discounted from their list), they’ll offer you a deal to purchase all 3 – it was equivalent to what I would have paid on eBay for them seperately.
I enjoyed the game… but unless I missed something, the ending was anti-climatic. The only thing I didn’t do was get all the items in the collection, but I got stick of trying to find it all.
I HAVE TRIED TO BUILD THE SCARECROW WITH A MASTER FARMER BUT IT KEEPS SAYING MORE INFO NEEDED OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT WHAT DOES THE PERSON HAVE TO HAVE DOES IT NEED TO BE A MASTER SCIENTIST AS WELL
If I recall correctly, a Master Scientist may be required. I hope I’m not misleading you here.

You have to have the 3rd level of culture. Once you do, you can just drag an adept scientist or master scientist over to the vines. They will cut them and when complete they will read the message underneath.
the fire count down clock will reappear once all of the stew has been eaten.

here are some more tips as well
to make crops: get a master scientist and drag them over to the rocks near the fertile soil they will start building a dam wen its done crops will grow (but sometimes crops take 4 hours!!!) wen also you have done this you can get pebbles
a scarecrow: you will need a scarecrow to get birds (they are very annoying they eat everything!) get a adept builder or higher and take them over to the roots below the rocks do tis twice to make one
cutting tools: you can use tools to cut away the the vines and the thorns wen you have cut away all of the thorns you can get beetles. wen you have a adept or maybe master (i cant remember lol) scientist you will see 3 shiny blue things by the rocks get them and it will say u need special wood then get the wood below the rocks and you will have cutting tools

wen u have cauldron make a stew of 2 of the south orange flowers and those north east purple ones get a adualt to eat stew put them in water and they will get it
You need farming level 3 and a master farmer. Then brew a stew and use 1 herb from the black flower by the waterfall and 2 herbs from the orange flower on the very bottom. Have your master farmer eat that stew and he won’t need to breathe and he can then go dive in the pond to catch the algae eating fish. Kepp catching the fish until the algae clears aup. Master scientists can also catch the fish.

tech points: you can get tech points by putting them on the reserch table with candles on but i bet u no that already anyway the more people you have working on the table the faster the points also a trainee scientist will get les tech points then a master scientist for instance a master scientist get 50 points wen a trainee gets 10 another way for tech points is getting collectables more than once

also by buying advancements in science make villagers get more tech points
algae eating fish: we are all very annoyed with algae well i was wat u need is either a master scientist or farmer and lvl 3 farming wen you have done this get them into the pond they will start collecting the fish you need to make about 3 trips

You don’t need the stew to get the algae-eating fish, it’s so you can get the top-right gong piece.
Where are people getting the fact to use the stew to not need to breath to get the algae-eating fish? That’s for the gong piece!
This is how it’s done..
Sustainable Fishing
When the ocean to the west is over-fished, it develops algae. To eliminate the problem and restore fishing, special algae-eating fish must be transported from the pond to the ocean. This requires Level Three Farming and a Master Farmer or Master Scientist. Take them to the pond and drop them in. Once enough algae-eating fish are transported to the ocean, the algae will clear.

If you’re pausing the game for any reason, that slows them down. The “countdown” for nursing is in three-minute increments, and if you pause, it resets the three-minutes to its beginning again and you have to do it over. If you pause much, you have to keep starting the same three-minute increment over and over again . . . I had one woman get stuck at 12 minutes and stay there for over an hour because I kept pausing the game to pick up butterflies and such (you do know that if you pause the game when a butterfly or whatever shows up, drop all the children you have on it, and then unpause the game, half or more of them will pick it up? If 4 kids, 2 butterflies. If 5 kids, 3 butterflies. And so on.)

Mine stopped at 50 and I read somewhere that fifty is the limit but I wanted to test it. I have a bunch more that qualify but do not show as esteemed elders -and do not have totems. I even have one who is a master in all five skills but does not show as an esteemed elder because he came after the first fifty.
Mine seems to have stopped at 50 also – no totem and no designation. Also, the cemetery only holds the first 50 graves. To me, that feels pretty much like end of game. I’ve done everything except get the last beetle and the last pebble (plus whatever unexpected “washed up on shore” messages and gong-ringing events yet to experience), so I guess I’ll just let the village die out while I try to catch the last 2 collecibles. If I don’t get them before the last children grow up, I guess that’s that. I’m ready to move on to VV3!

Why would someone make something that they gave away for free? People get paid to make and support these things, so it only makes sense that you would have to pay to use them
One thing you can do is have everyone harvest your crops, especially when you are getting low. You see, the “crops Available” meter only subtracts AFTER you drop the harvested crops in the food bin. So, if you only have 2 or 3 crops available, and drop all your workers on the field, they will all be able to harvest (the amount they harvest depends on the speed of the game). Same goes for coconuts. This is a good way to extend your food supplies. And, don’t make too many babies too soon!!!

Okay, ive been playing this forever! and they keep dying! Right off the bat i get the fire going, then make them learn the tech to make the damn and the 2nd level in farming, and i get the scarecrow, and they get the coconuts, then it;ll say how many mins left the crops will grow, then when i come back theres no crops and the time is set to even higher amounts of mins which kills all of my people =( am i missing something?! can some one help me pleaseee?!
The key for me was to just work very diligently at trying to build up tech points to buy the necessary technology to be able to advance. Stay as small as you can so there are not too many mouths to feed but have enough people to do the jobs: one on farming (to master farming), one building (to master building), all the rest on research to build points and develop at least one master scientist, plus a couple children to collect mushrooms. Everytime an adult wanders away, put him/her on one of the 6 herbs so that ALL villagers develop healing skills. Forget so much about collectibles at this point – just get your adults doing those basic jobs and drag your children around getting mushrooms – the mushrooms kept my tiny village alive until I was able to build the scarecrow to keep crops – after that I could grow the village. Hope that helps.

What can I do????
I did the same thing but I left the computer for 4 hours and somehow it was back. I dont know if it was a mistake or it just comes back after awhile. Hope it works for you two.

Actually, you DON’T need a master scientist to build a dam. You just need to have level 2 engineering, then plop them on the rocks that go across the “very narrow stream”. The master scientist is to make cutting tools, and can get the algae-eating fish.

2 keep birds from getting to your crop, you must build a scarecrow. some internet links on google have great tips for problems like these. i can’t remember off the top of my head how to build, but you might wan’t to check out those tips!
yeah. you have to transfer algae eating fish from the pond to the ocean. once there are enough fish, the algae will begin to disapear. i don’t remember how to get it over there tho… try typing in tips for virtual villagers 2 on Google and see what you can come up with.

Haha hey guys, I found a glitch. I now have both VVs (second reviewer, try Wal-Mart!), while I was playing VV 1 I made a new game, switched the computer clock up two hours, went to VV 2, and my researcher had a berry basket! HAHA ha hee ho ho

I have the same problem on 1. I, too, have two Mas. Scientists, so here’s whatcha do. Set all your villagers on the science table, and wait. Thankfully, Master Scientists generate more tech points than Trainee/Adept/Apprentices. When you get ‘number required’ tech, buy it. Note: Every time you leave, pause it. This will prevent death, but slow progress.
No theyve gotta go in the hut but if youve gotta womanman who likes to run like i do then makeum kiss by the hut then theyll walk in insted of the womanman waiting and just comin out and runnin up to slap himher
yes this is a normal cheat you switch computer clock a few hours forwd then choode apply and start again dont pause it will prevent them from growing and say you have a trainee scientist it might be a master when you get back
me neither all i can connect is the things covered by the vines above ‘the very narrow stream’ the kiddos play in and the the milestone with the strange markings think you can use the tool used for the things blocking the cave to cut them too

Leave the game unpaused over a long period of time so they could get higher tech points. They will just be fine if there is enough food and the population is high.

Really that’s the best way:
Put as many adults as you can spare on the research table. Make them stay there – if they wander, grab ‘em and stick them right back on the table.
By doing so, you’ll advance more of them to Master Scientist and their points will be higher.
Buy the 2nd and 3rd level Science technology as soon as you can which will make your points advance faster – it is so expensive though and you HAVE to buy some of the others along the way too, so this for me was not fast enough.
Put as many children as you can on picking up collectibles – they give you tech points when the children put them in the hut. The more you pick up, the more the game tends to give you.
You just have to work it, but eventually it will happen.
i got 1000000 tech points by pauseing it for two says so i got every tech but still havent completed game

You just have to wait for it to go away. I never actually timed it, but it seems like maybe it disappears within half an hour.

My villagers only seem to be able to make male offspring. Since I started the game I’ve made 6 babies and all have been male! No matter which woman or man I use. If it carries on like this my tribe of men will die out! Has anyone else experienced this?I now only have 3 women in a tribe of 13.

the game is very challenging, i had never thought that you could only make so much babies at a certain age, once they hit 50 years old, there pretty much useless.

HELP!!!!..i keep getting level 2 farming level 2 architecht, i build my farm and the scarecrow but then everytime i come back to the game the time for my crops to grow back increases?….er: it will first say 80 mins. then i will turn it off and come back in an hour or two and it will say 1076 mins. left till crops grow back….with no food sources i always die…this is like the 10th or 12th time ive played this game and it keeps killin me…actually this last time it kept doing it but i never grew algae in the ocean so im still on it trying to get 90000 for the algae eating fish….please help

My population is low but I can’t get my villagers to breed no matter what. Ive tried hundreds of times and it doesn’t seem to be working. Is there a maximum age that your adults can breed at? How can I get them to reproduce?
